Flat Roofs
Flat roofs can be challenging because gravity is not helping to shed rainwater as quickly as it would on a pitched roof. Experienced, qualified installers are essential to sealing flat roofs properly. Premier’s installers all have years of experience in dealing with the challenges of flat roofs.
Until about fifty years ago, most flat roofs were made by applying layers of tar and gravel, also called built-up roof systems. Very few built-up roofs are installed any more due to the cost and the weight of this type of roof.
One of the more common types of roofing materials used today on flat roofs is modified bitumen. This material is torch applied over a base sheet, creating a seamless, one-piece covering for the roof. The heating process ensures that there will be no leaks. Modified bitumen comes in several colors, one of which will probably match the shingled portions of your roof.
EPDM is a rubber sheet roofing material. A rolled product, EPDM can be installed either mechanically or with adhesives. EPDM has the advantage of having few seams and being very puncture resistant.
TPO is another roofing material that comes in rolls. TPO is less expensive than EPDM in most cases. It is also a very light weight material.
